Basic Income Manitoba

Basic Income Manitoba is a volunteer-run organization based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. They are people of diverse backgrounds, interests and skills, including researchers, activists, people living with low income, policy analysts, members of professions and business people.

Events/activities

Basic Income Manitoba essay contest

Basic Income Manitoba, in partnership with the Winnipeg Free Press, sponsored an essay-writing contest that challenged participants to educate themselves about basic income and explain how it might contribute to a fairer, safer, and more secure life for all Canadians.

Community events

Community engagement events, including showing the video The Manitoba Story and the photo exhibit Humans of Basic Income by Jessie Golem, and a book launch of Basic Income for Canadians with author Dr. Evelyn Forget 

“Income Security and the 2019 Manitoba Election”

In the Manitoba provincial election of 2019, three of the four major political parties supported basic income, although not the Progressive Conservatives, who won the election. This context is discussed in J.
