Canada’s Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO) Updates its Analysis of a National Guaranteed Basic Income
February 19, 2025: The PBO just published an update to their 2021 report on A Distributional Analysis of a National Guaranteed Basic Income. Following PEI’s GBI Report, they did a cost comparison for a GBI using two different definitions of a family unit – the traditional nuclear family and the economic family, which is a broader definition. Like the PEI report, their update found that the cost of a GBI could be cut by roughly half using the broader definition, and the poverty rate cut by 40% in 2025 dollars. See Senator Kim Pate’s media release about the PBO update.
