Kingston Action Group for a Basic Income Guarantee
Established in 2013, Kingston Action Group for a Basic Income Guarantee (BIG) initiated Ontario-wide meetings of basic income advocates in 2015.
We produced a widely disseminated statement of guiding principles for basic income and produced a half-hour tv program: The BIG Idea, aired throughout the Cogeco broadcast area.
Dr. Robin Boadway, Kingston Action Group Member and internationally known expert on taxation and finance published: Designing a Basic Income Guarantee for Canada.
We worked with a Kingston Municipal Councillor to create an endorsement of basic income which was unanimously adopted by the Kingston City Council. This was the first endorsement of basic income by any publicly elected body in Canada. Subsequently, about 45 other Municipal Councils across Ontario endorsed the motion.
