About the cases
While each case identifies distinct issues and concerns specific to each sector, there is a common thread that runs through them all – income insecurity – and how a basic income guarantee would enable many people to improve their security and well-being. For example:
- People experience food insecurity because they lack sufficient income.
- People’s mental and physical health is often compromised by income insecurity.
- People find themselves trapped in abusive relationships because they lack sufficient income to leave.
- People whose work is precarious, unpaid or underpaid lack recognition for their work and their contributions to society.
Each case presents their findings in a variety of ways:
- A report or summary.
- Letters to the Prime Minister, other MPs and Senators
- Op-eds, articles, and webinars.
- Presentations to Federal Standing Committees
How each case is developed
For each ‘case’, a core team of topic experts, community representatives, and basic income advocates is brought together to develop the 2 or 3 page briefing note. This note is evidence based. Once developed, the briefing note is shared with many other sector-based institutions and individuals for support. These ‘cases’ are living documents: they continue to evolve in order to reflect the best information that can be found and to make sure they reflect as many perspectives as possible.
